Event

Kremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer

2017 is a special year in that the maestro is celebrating his 70th birthday, and his chamber orchestra is celebrating its 20th anniversary.  This double jubilee is being celebrated at a global level.  After appearing at world-famous concert halls and festivals in Europe, the United States and Asia, Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica have returned to Latvia with a colourful programme to open the Rīga Festival.  Robert Schumann conjures up elegant eastern scenes, the legendary avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen offers a portrait of the signs of the zodiac, while one of Gidon Kremer’s confederates, the delicate psychology master Leonid Desyatnikov uses sounds to paint the seasons of the year.  One of Latvia’s most brilliant young composers, Jēkabs Jančevskis, will present a new opus as a gift to the celebrants.
